2009 Eugene Celebration Film Festival Recap

Eugene Celebration Film FestivalThe 2009 Eugene Celebration Film Festival was a lot of fun. Along with screening Deep Blue: A glimpse into Crater Lake (which played to a full house), we watched a handful of shorts and a couple of features.

Some of the films we enjoyed:

  • Ascending the Giants – Portland Arborists set forth on a journey to locate the new Oregon State Sitka Spruce Tree champion
  • MLK Today: Martin Luther King’s Words – celebrating the legacy of Dr. King by bringing fresh voices to his message
  • Postman’s Progress – a day in the life of a postman. Neither rain nor snow. . .

Our favorite film of the festival was the documentary Tapped. This film focused on the fight over water rights in communities around the country with big business and asks the question “is access to clean drinking water a basic human right, or a commodity to be bought and sold?” Visit TappedTheMovie.com for more information on the film.

Along with watching some interesting and entertaining independent films, we had a chance to enjoy the music, food, and atmosphere of the Eugene Celebration. Even with the constant threat of rain you could tell that it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit.

Thanks and kudos to Katina Andoniadis and her crew for putting on a great film festival!
