2008 Seattle True Independent Film Festival

We had a great time at the 2008 Seattle True Independent Film Festival! Along with screening In The Event Of A ZOMBIE ATTACK, we had a chance to see some other shorts and features, meet a few filmmakers, interact with the festival staff (everyone was friendly and helpful) and watch films in all 3 venues in use for the festival.

Some of the films we enjoyed:

  • Clean Freak – a mockumentary about OCD
  • PK-Granny – an animated short involving a Granny trained in the art of Parkour
  • Under An Influence – a mockumentary about “bringing back the instructional film”

The film that really capped it for us was Hope Springs Eternal. An animated short about Mort, a broken-hearted sad sack who decides to end it all. But he’s such a loser, he can’t even kill himself without screwing that up too. If you get a chance to see this short, we highly recommend it, in fact if/when it ever becomes available on DVD, we’ll be buying a copy ourselves!

Friday the 13th proved to be a bit unlucky for our screening. The bulb in the projector was on its last legs during the screening of In The Event Of A ZOMBIE ATTACK and finally died about a minute and half into the Vampire Diaries (the feature that followed us). That along with the left speaker not working and the black-out curtains that allowed too much light in took a little away from the screening, but everyone there seemed to enjoy it anyway.

In terms of venues, the Central Cinema was our favorite. While the location is a little less than desirable, the venue and the staff were fantastic. Seating on the floor is booth-style with a table for your food and drinks, the screen nice and big, the sound was great and not a bad seat in the house.

Even with our misfortunes on Friday the 13th it was a great festival to be a part of and kudos go out to Clint Berquist (Festival Director), Brian Shelley (Program Director) and the rest of the hardworking staff for putting on a very memorable event!

Shades of gray

Update: 12/14/2009 – The review has been reposted on Shades Of Gray: If you need help surviving a zombie attack.

Steve Miller, a movie reviewer who writes for RottenTomatoes.com, was in attendance for our screening at the 2008 Seattle True Independent Film Festival and he posted a nice review of In The Event Of A ZOMBIE ATTACK.

Additionally, he also gave us a mention in his review of Zombie Calling. Steve states – If there’s a fan of zombies in your life, this book, couled with a DVD “In the Event of a Zombie Attack”, will make a fun and unusual gift. I’m certain they’ll think it the best present they’ve received in a while.

Rotten Tomatoes is one of the premier online movie and video game review sites.

IMDb (Internet Movie Database)

It has been our mission since we made our first film, Stolen Moment, to get on IMDb and with the screening of In The Event Of A ZOMBIE ATTACK, at the 2008 Seattle True Independent Film Festival, we finally did it!

IMDb doesn’t accept every movie/television show that is submitted. In fact, they have a rather involved review process to ensure every submission meets their criteria. It’s been an interesting journey, but it was definitely worth the effort!

Visit the In The Event Of A ZOMBIE ATTACK IMDb page to rate the film.
