Oly Roller Recap: January 29, 2012
On Sunday, January 29 2012, the Oly Rollers kicked off their season with a double header bout. In the first match the Dropkick Donnas took on the Sick Town Derby Dames and in the 2nd bout the Bella Donnas faced off against the Rainy City Roller Dolls. The plan is to post a recap for every home match this season.
We included open captions in the places we could understand what the announcer was saying, hopefully it’s helpful when watching the video. If you want to learn about the basics of roller derby, check out Roller Derby Explained by the Gem City Rollergirls.
All the footage was shot on our iPhones and edited on Final Cut Pro X and we feel it turned out pretty good. We’re learning a lot about shooting on alternative cameras and what we choose to capture while enjoying the match at hand.
What’s on tap for 2012
It’s been quite some time since we’ve posted an update so here goes!
We are still working on our record store documentary “Thanks for your support!” Last year about this time we screened a short version of the film at the Plomondon Independent Film Festival and got some great feedback that we’ve used moving forward. So what’s left? We are down to a few interviews, additional in-store footage, and final edits. Our goal is to have the completed film wrapped up before the end of the year.
Lately we’ve been experimenting with the FlipCam, GoPro, and iPhone video as alternatives to traditional cameras. We’ve captured some travel footage from both near and far and are putting together a series of Travelogue videos that chronicle the drive and give some history on our destinations. The first video should be online by February.
Finally this is going to be a year for music. I am working with Wilkinson as we prepare for Displaced Time’s first official release on CD and as a digital download. Along the way we are documenting the process and posting some of the footage online as part of our Production Diary series on YouTube. Check out past videos on our YouTube Channel.
For those who follow along on Twitter, please note that updates for 4D4Films and Displaced Time are now being posted to http://twitter.com/iamthe_will.
We hope 2012 brings everyone health, happiness, and success in all your endeavors!
Cedar Loft Cabin at Mt. Rainier video
We recently completed a video for Cedar Loft Cabin at Mt. Rainier. We’ve stayed there on several occasions and it really is a very peaceful getaway.
You can find out more about the cabin itself, including booking information at: www.cedarloftcabin.com.
Like all of the videos we post to our YouTube channel, it’s captioned.
Round 2: Displaced Time production diary videos posted with captions
We’ve got 3 more production diary videos from Displaced Time, including Will’s first appearance and the inevitable cowbell.
Displaced Time production diary videos posted with captions
In June, Wilkinson and I started working on a project to breathe new life into some past songs we recorded for our band Displaced Time.
To document the process of re-engineering the tracks for our upcoming release, we decided to produce short production diaries along the way. Wilkinson has done most of the work to-date and has posted 4 videos showing some of the work done on the songs “God’s Hand” and “Dazed Frenzy”.
All of the videos are captioned. Enjoy!
