On Sunday, April 15, the Dropkick Donnas faced the visiting Port Scandalous Brawl Stars from Port Angeles, WA. It was an epic bout with multiple lead changes and lots of action. In the end Port Scandalous was able to pick up the last 3 points and win the bout 106-103.

This ended up being our longest recap video so far as we had a lot of great clips to share. While we captured some new angles, we’re still battling audio issues at the venue so once again we’ve included open captions where we could. iPhone and FCPX were used to shoot/edit the video.

The Dropkick Donnas took on the Terminal City All-stars on Sunday, April 1, 2012. The Donnas competed hard in front of the hometown fans, but in the end the Rollergirls from Vancouver, BC were just too much.

As with all our recap videos, we provided open captions where we could. Unfortunately announcer dialog is challenging to capture cleanly with the crowd, etc.

The video was shot on the iPhone and edited in FCPX.

On Sunday, March 18, 2012, the Oly Rollers held their 2nd home bout of season. The Cosa Nostra Donnas took on the Jet City Bombers from Everett, WA. This bout was far more physical than the home opener and even though Oly grabbed an early lead and never looked back, Jet City battled up until the final whistle. It was a very entertaining bout.

We’ve provided open captions where we could, unfortunately the audio gets a bit tough to decipher in places. Hopefully it helps.

The video was shot on the iPhone and edited in FCPX.

Plomondon Independent Film Festival (PIFF)The 8th annual Plomondon Independent Film Festival (PIFF) was held in Toledo, WA on February 17-18, 2012 and featured some of the best entries we’ve seen in the 5 years we’ve been participating/attending the festival.

Some of our favorites from this year’s festival:

We had 3 videos in this year’s edition of PIFF:

Visit the festival website for the full list of winners.

As always, we received fantastic feedback from the audiences and enjoyed meeting and discussing our projects with everyone. Thanks again to Mike and Di for another great festival!

On Sunday, January 29 2012, the Oly Rollers kicked off their season with a double header bout. In the first match the Dropkick Donnas took on the Sick Town Derby Dames and in the 2nd bout the Bella Donnas faced off against the Rainy City Roller Dolls. The plan is to post a recap for every home match this season.

We included open captions in the places we could understand what the announcer was saying, hopefully it’s helpful when watching the video. If you want to learn about the basics of roller derby, check out Roller Derby Explained by the Gem City Rollergirls.

All the footage was shot on our iPhones and edited on Final Cut Pro X and we feel it turned out pretty good. We’re learning a lot about shooting on alternative cameras and what we choose to capture while enjoying the match at hand.

It’s been quite some time since we’ve posted an update so here goes!

We are still working on our record store documentary “Thanks for your support!” Last year about this time we screened a short version of the film at the Plomondon Independent Film Festival and got some great feedback that we’ve used moving forward. So what’s left? We are down to a few interviews, additional in-store footage, and final edits. Our goal is to have the completed film wrapped up before the end of the year.

Lately we’ve been experimenting with the FlipCam, GoPro, and iPhone video as alternatives to traditional cameras. We’ve captured some travel footage from both near and far and are putting together a series of Travelogue videos that chronicle the drive and give some history on our destinations. The first video should be online by February.

Finally this is going to be a year for music. I am working with Wilkinson as we prepare for Displaced Time’s first official release on CD and as a digital download. Along the way we are documenting the process and posting some of the footage online as part of our Production Diary series on YouTube. Check out past videos on our YouTube Channel.

For those who follow along on Twitter, please note that updates for 4D4Films and Displaced Time are now being posted to http://twitter.com/iamthe_will.

We hope 2012 brings everyone health, happiness, and success in all your endeavors!

In June, Wilkinson and I started working on a project to breathe new life into some past songs we recorded for our band Displaced Time.

To document the process of re-engineering the tracks for our upcoming release, we decided to produce short production diaries along the way. Wilkinson has done most of the work to-date and has posted 4 videos showing some of the work done on the songs “God’s Hand” and “Dazed Frenzy”.

All of the videos are captioned. Enjoy!
